Dr Jossie Higuerey’s family is from Venezuela but she was born in New York City. She grew up traveling between New York City and Venezuela through high school. From an early age, she had a passion and love for animals - reading all she could about them.
Before she pursued her education in veterinary care, Dr. Jossie went to school for web and graphics design. She received her A.S. and B.S. in Veterinary Technology at Becker College. Dr. Jossie worked as a certified veterinary technician for a few years before applying to veterinary school. She was accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she spent two and a half years on a tropical island that felt like paradise. She finished her clinical years at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduating, she worked at a general practice in Orlando, Florida. Later she worked in a 24-hour clinic on the weekends where she practiced preventive care in addition to emergency care. Following her weekend veterinary care, Dr. Jossie became a relief veterinarian throughout Central Florida. It was at this time she became interested in alternative medicine and took her first course in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida. In her travels, she came across FloridaWild Veterinary Hospital and felt she had finally found a place she could settle in and call home. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at the Chi Institute for Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and she loves everything about it!
Dr Jossie enjoys spending time with her cat, guinea pig, bearded dragon, red footed tortoise, cockatiel, two hermit crabs and five dogs. She enjoys staying active and even doing needlecraft during the little down time she has.
"I have been far and wide to many clinics - I feel truly blessed and honored to have joined such a wonderful practice as FloridaWild. I love my patients and I feel like I can help them and their humans lead happier, healthier, longer lives!"
